What does it mean to be blue and transparent? To me, being blue is more than just feeling sad. To be blue is a cycle of feeling at the top of the world and slinking down to rock bottom. To be blue is to feel lonely while surrounded by people. To be blue is to give up on hope. For a while, I was blue and opaque. Refusing to burden others, I wouldn’t let my blue be seen by anyone else, or even pretend I was never blue to begin with. To be transparent is to let this false mindset go.
In this project I aim to be honest, not just with others, but myself as well. I focused on images that speak to me as a person. Even though I might not be physically in the photo, I still consider many of these images a form of self-portraiture, as each subject is a reflection of me. I may still feel blue from time to time, but I am now transparent, being candid with myself and with others and seeking support when I need it.
